What is BPM?
BPM (Vehicle and Motorcycle Tax) is paid when a car is first registered in the Netherlands. This happens when buying new, but also when importing.
The amount of BPM depends on:
- CO₂ emissions
- Fuel type
- Age of the car
- Catalogue value
When reselling or exporting a car, the remaining BPM (rest-BPM) also plays a role. This is the portion of the original BPM that is still in the car, based on depreciation. For exports, you can (partially) reclaim this rest-BPM.
In practice, you primarily want one thing: to quickly know what you need to pay or include in your calculation. That's what the calculators are for.
Why use a BPM calculator?
A good tool saves you time and prevents arguments later on.
With VWE's calculators:
- Do you have a correct calculation straight away
- Do you work with current data
- Can you follow up (import, sale or export)?
- Prevent calculation errors on invoices
Whether you're doing one car or trading daily: this simply saves time.
When do you want to calculate BPM?
The situations below are the most common when BPM is calculated:
Import automatically
You are importing a car from abroad and want to know in advance how much BPM you will have to pay.
Export automation
You are selling a car abroad and want insight into the tax settlement and any refund.
Car sales
You are selling a car within the Netherlands and want to know how the remaining BPM (private vehicle and motorcycle tax) affects the price or administration.
