The 45 km/h company bicycle; something for you?
You have probably seen them before, one of those super-fast electric bikes. These are the speed pedelecs, bicycles that can reach speeds of up to 45 kilometres per hour. This latest licensed vehicle in the Dutch “fleet” is becoming an increasingly interesting mode of transport, private and business.
This “high-performance bike” is gaining popularity as it is seen as an attractive alternative to public transport, a scooter or even a car. Due to its high purchase price, leasing – both private and business – is becoming increasingly common, with business leases subject to a tax addition of 7% of the new price since the start of this year. This means the bike can also be used for private purposes.
Increase in sales, private and business!
Our data sources show a rise of no less than 371 units in new sales this year. This is due to increasing sales to both private individuals and the business market. In the first five months, over 2,000 new speed pedelecs were sold, nearly 600 more than in the same period last year.
‘Company bike’
For employers, the fixed additional tax percentage is also favourable. Employers can consider setting up a modern cycle-to-work scheme for employees, possibly alongside the company car scheme. A leasing arrangement allows employers to spread the costs of more expensive speed pedelecs over a longer period.
A leased bicycle can also contribute to a sustainable image and healthier employees. It can also help reduce traffic congestion. A perfect means of transport for commuting, therefore. The Association of Dutch Car Lease Companies (VNA) therefore sees the arrival of the leased bicycle as a welcome addition to the total mobility solution.
