How does it work?
Exporting with VWE is simple, complete, and efficient. Through our online platform you can handle everything in one place—from vehicle deregistration to the required export documents, BPM refunds, and VAT processing. Below, you’ll find a step-by-step guide to getting it all done right.
Everything for vehicle export
With VWE's export services, you can arrange everything related to exporting a vehicle: from deregistration in the Netherlands to the correct documents for the buyer in the country of destination. Via the platform, you can register a vehicle for export and immediately arrange additional matters such as an export registration plate, temporary insurance, and a Declaration of Type Approval Data.
For export outside of Europe, you will need a customs document via our partner CARGO. For most vehicles, this is the EX-A customs document. For lorries (under 10 years old), trailers and machinery, you can also have a EUR.1 Invoice Declaration Applications.
Everything about BPM refunds
When exporting a vehicle within the EEA, in many cases you as the seller can reclaim the remaining BPM. This allows you to offer vehicles at a lower price to foreign buyers. But to reclaim BPM from the Dutch Tax Authority, you need to have everything in order. Here’s how it works:
1. Prove that the vehicle is registered in an EEA country. This can be done in several ways:
- Ask the buyer to send a copy of the registration in the destination country. Submit this copy to the tax authorities as proof.
– Or apply for a permanent registration in an EEA country. That way, you’ll have immediate proof and won’t be reliant on the buyer to send you the documentation. You can easily apply for a temporary EEA registration via VWE’s online platform: the German form (Fahrzeugbrief).
2. Then submit a BPM refund application (including proof) to the tax authorities. Via VWE's online platform, you can immediately print out a completed form after exporting within the EEA. Everything to reclaim the amount of residual BPM as quickly as possible!
Everything about VAT
When exporting a vehicle outside the EU, you as the seller can apply the 0% VAT rate. This allows you to offer vehicles at a lower price to foreign buyers. However, you must be able to prove to the Tax Authority that you correctly applied the 0% VAT. This proof comes from showing that the vehicle has left the EU, which is easily done with an EAD customs document. All the foreign buyer has to do is have this document scanned at the EU border. After that, you’ll receive a Confirmation of Exit (COE)—the official proof that the vehicle has left the EU.
When selling a vehicle to a business within he EU, you can also apply the 0% VAT rate. This is called an intra-Community supply. The buyer must have a valid VAT identification number, which you can verify online. In addition, you need here to prove that the vehicle was transported to another EU country. This can be shown through your administration, such as the order form, order confirmation, and transport documents (e.g. CMR consignment note).
In short: with VWE’s online platform, you don’t just arrange the export—you can also handle additional services such as temporary insurance, temporary German registration, and customs formalities. These require authorisations from the RDW and Customs, and we’ll be happy to advise you on this. Contact us at 088 – 893 7001 or info@vwe.nl.
