The Kfz-Zulassung (German letter)
A Kfz-Zulassung, also called the German letter or Tageszulassung, is a German registration certificate. It contains more information on the registration document than most other European registrations and is widely used by the international automotive industry. The document consists of two parts:
- Registration number: Zulassungsbescheinigung Teil I (Fahrzeugschein)
- Property certificate: Zulassungsbescheinigung Teil II (Fahrzeugbrief)

Conditions for obtaining the Kfz-Zulassung
Want to export a vehicle to Germany? If so, a Kfz-Zulassung is useful when selling and facilitating just about every future registration process. You can easily arrange this through MijnVWE. However, the vehicle must meet a number of conditions.
Requirements for the Dutch number plate
To apply for a Kfz-Zulassung, you must have:
- The original registration card or Part IA (in case of an old paper registration certificate).
- The original registration certificate part II (also known as the RDW export certificate).
- A European Type Approval (listed under K on the registration certificate) or else the original Certificate of Conformity (CoC).
- A valid MOT, valid for at least 5 days from the time all original documents are provided.
- For petrol and petrol-hybrid vehicles between 3 and 4 years old: an original MOT report. In Germany, these vehicles must in fact be inspected after only 3 years.
Exceptions
In some cases, additional documentation is required or it is not possible to apply for a Kfz-Zulassung. Please allow for additional costs.
- New vehicles: an original invoice as well as an original CoC must be provided for this.
- Vehicles with a gas system: a Zulassung (German letter) is only possible if the gas system was delivered ex-factory.
- Vehicles with an open recall in Germany: the Zulassung cannot be issued until the recall has been carried out.
