How does the readout work technically?
To measure the battery condition, the Moba dongle connects to the vehicle and reads out the Battery Management System (BMS). This BMS contains all relevant data about the battery: capacity, charge cycles, temperature history, and more.
Most EVs and PHEVs communicate via the OBD protocol. OBD stands for On-Board Diagnostics, an international standard that has been in vehicles for decades. The Moba Connect Pro reads this protocol via the vehicle's OBD port. However, newer vehicles are increasingly communicating via DoIP, which stands for Diagnostics over Internet Protocol. This protocol is faster, more complex, and suitable for the larger amount of data that modern EV systems generate. A standard OBD dongle cannot process this. New hardware is required for this.

Wat is de Moba DoIP-dongel?
The Moba DoIP is a new dongle, specially developed for vehicles that communicate via the DoIP protocol. Moba has worked on the development for more than a year to make the technology reliable and ready for use.
At the time of writing, supported models:
- Renault - all e-tech models
- Mercedes – EQE, EQS and all GL and Class models from 2024
- Volvo — EX90
Models from Volvo, Polestar and Range Rover will be added soon. Other manufacturers will follow.
The connection is made directly via the OBD port, just like with the Moba Connect Pro. No additional adapters are required. The procedure in the app is identical: the Moba Certify Pro app indicates on the first page when the Moba DoIP is required. A scan takes 30 to 40 seconds on average. The result is the same official Moba State of Health certificate, automatically added to the vehicle file in MijnVWE.
What are the differences between the two dongles?
The Moba Connect Pro operates via the OBD protocol. The Moba DoIP operates via the DoIP protocol. Both read the BMS, but via a different technical connection. The dongles are not interchangeable: the Connect Pro does not work on DoIP vehicles, and the DoIP dongle is not backward compatible with OBD vehicles. Which dongle you need depends on the vehicles you are measuring. The Moba Certify Pro app will indicate which is applicable per vehicle.
What do you need and what does it cost?
The Moba Connect Pro is part of the Moba Toolbox, which you purchase once. The Moba DoIP is an extension to this and is offered separately. You pay a fixed amount per vehicle per report, regardless of which dongle you use. Remeasurements within 14 days are free of charge.
