Amendment of regulations for the intake/take-up of number plates as of 1 January 2016

For exporters

• For both export and EDD transactions, lamination codes must be entered since 1 January 2016. Is one or more digits illegible? Replace it/them with an asterisk (*).
• Did you enter the wrong code? Via the RDW laminating code correction form Can you correct the laminating code(s)?.
• You are required to retain the number plates from the last ten transactions. Note that export and EDD are viewed separately. Therefore, if you use both services, you must retain the number plates from the last 10 export transactions and the last 10 EDD transactions.
• Number plates that have been surrendered must be rendered unusable by either 2 halves to be cut. The 10-digit unique number of the licence plate – the laminate code – must remain legible. Keep the halves of the licence plates from a single report bundled together.

For dismantling companies

• You are required to keep the licence plates from the last ten transactions.
• Number plates that have been surrendered must be rendered unusable by either 2 halves to be cut. The 10-digit unique number of the licence plate – the laminate code – must remain legible. Keep the halves of the licence plates from a single report bundled together.

For number plate manufacturers

• When issuing with the reason ‘exchange’ and when reporting the ‘destruction’ process, you are obliged to retain the number plates from the last 10 transactions. Please note that both processes are viewed separately. Therefore, retain the plates from the last 10 issues with the reason ‘exchange’ and the plates from the last 10 reports of the ‘destruction’ process.
• Number plates that have been surrendered must be rendered unusable by either 2 halves to be cut. The 10-digit unique number of the licence plate – the laminate code – must remain legible. Keep the halves of the licence plates from a single report bundled together.
• Since 1 January 2016, it has been possible to issue vehicle registration plates of model 27.10 (motorcycle registration plate) with plastic characters; the so-called luxury plate.

Please note that the RDW has been verifying this new working method since 1 January 2016.
