Full vehicle registration document required for export!
When a vehicle is sold to a foreign buyer and needs to be registered for export, a complete paper registration certificate or a Kentekencard must be present. If the registration certificate incomplete Yes, if the exporting car company needs to apply for a registration card before it can be registered for export. This means an additional €2.90 in costs and delays because the registration card will be delivered on the next postal delivery day at the earliest. This can be easily avoided by keeping the complete paper registration certificate after it has been added to the company stock. If a vehicle originates from a private individual, they must give permission to keep the paper registration certificate Part IB.
All the steps in order
1. A private individual, legal entity, or car dealership approaches you to sell a vehicle (i.e., add it to your company stock) with a paper registration document.
2. a) if private individual: ask the private individual for the form ‘retain paper registration documents for export’ (PDF) to be filled in.
b) if a legal entity: permission does not need to be requested for the retention of the paper registration certificate IB.
c) if it is a car dealership: no permission needs to be requested for the storage of the paper registration certificate IB.
3. Keep the full paper registration certificate (Parts IA, IB and II), so that it can be used when registering for export, by you or by a car dealership to whom you resell the vehicle.
If you are not permitted to keep the paper registration certificate part IB or if the paper registration certificate is incomplete, you will first need to apply for a Kentekencard if you are selling to a foreign buyer. The vehicle cannot be registered for export until the Kentekencard has been received. This will therefore cause a delay.
