Following the House of Representatives, the Senate has now also approved the bill. The extension of the warranty period is related to European rules on conformity. This new legal warranty applies to all types of consumer products, including cars, caravans, bicycles, and motorcycles.
These European rules stipulate that a purchased product must do what you as a buyer can reasonably expect it to do. A faulty product is one that has broken down too quickly during normal use.
This means that as a seller, from 27 April 2022, you must demonstrate that a customer's complaint is unfounded for the first twelve months after delivery. If you cannot do this, you will have to resolve the complaint promptly and without hassle for the customer.
If you wish to minimise this risk, you can take out an Autotrust warranty policy for it, so that you will not be faced with high repair costs.
