The Easter holidays are unfortunately not leading to a peak in market figures. Monday, April 5th is a public holiday and this is clearly reflected in the numbers. A comparison with week 16, when Easter fell last year, is more appropriate.
Easter 2021 better than Easter 2020 for business inventories
Last week, 49,673 cars were put into operational stock. This is a decrease of almost 18 per cent compared to the week before. Compared to last year’s Easter week, the numbers are 27.9 per cent higher.

The number of registrations is lagging behind
There has also been a decline in the number of new registrations, and this is not solely due to Easter. The daily averages are lower than the previous week. With a total of 22,598, no fewer than 211 fewer cars were registered than in the previous week.
The Easter weekend is traditionally a period when many car dealerships hold Easter shows. A lot of cars are usually bought during these days. In 2019, Good Friday was the day on which car dealerships sold the most used cars. Good Friday was also an excellent day in April in 2020. Car dealerships sold 4,167 used cars that day. This year, that figure has been surpassed: a remarkable 8,542 vehicles were sold. The best day in the past four days. However, week 14 as a whole was not an outlier.

Exports are falling significantly, but not compared to 2020
Exports fell by 14.9 percent. In week 13, 6,430 vehicles were exported. Compared to Easter week of 2020, the figures are 33.1 percent higher. Exports have clearly picked up again.

The testing centres remained closed on Easter Monday. Not a single car was inspected on that day. In total, 129,909 vehicles were inspected by the inspectors over the remaining four days. That is 15.3% lower than the previous week. Compared to week 16, which included Easter, the figures are 4.9% lower.
