Need a French environmental sticker?
Since 1 July 2016, it has been compulsory in many French cities to have a ‘Vignette Crit’Air’ for your vehicle. With the introduction of this French environmental sticker, the French government wants to keep older and mostly polluting cars and other vehicles out of French cities. This applies to older vehicles that emit a lot of particulate matter and other harmful substances. If you do not have an environmental sticker, you risk a fine of at least €68!
Application Service
With our application service, you can order the French environmental sticker easily, simply in Dutch and without mandatory credit card payment. We will submit the application to the French government, and you will receive the environmental sticker at home within approximately 14 days. During busier periods, the delivery time can take up to six weeks. Unfortunately, we have no influence on the actual delivery time from France.
How does it work?
Upon receiving your request, we will receive an electronic invoice from the Ministry of Ecological and Solidary Transition for your application. We will forward this document to you almost immediately upon receipt. Please also check the spam folder of your inbox. This email also serves as proof that the environmental sticker is indeed being issued.
Various coloured stickers
The French environmental sticker is round and comes in six different colours. Only one colour of window sticker is issued per registration number and it is valid in all environmental zones. The colour of sticker you are assigned is determined by the type of vehicle (camper van, car, motorcycle, moped, etc.), the level of CO2 emissions (Euro emission standard), and the age of the vehicle. A motorcycle emits less harmful particulate matter than a lorry. The age of the vehicle also sometimes plays a role.
Please note: There are two distinct types of zone: a permanent Zone à circulation restreinte (ZCR), like in the centre of Paris, and a temporary Zone de protection de l’air (ZPA). This can be implemented in the event of prolonged or extreme air pollution. For a temporary environmental zone, you only need a valid sticker if (prolonged) extreme air pollution is present. If you wish to know whether a temporary environmental zone has been implemented or is imminent, please check the Atmo-France website.
Where do you stick the environmental sticker?
On the bottom right-hand side, on the inside of your windscreen, as viewed from the driver's position. If there are other stickers already attached in this location, you can affix the environmental sticker above them. Please also see this instruction video on the French government's website.
Buy French Crit'Air sticker at petrol station
It is not possible to buy a French environmental sticker (Crit'Air) at a petrol station. These stickers, which are mandatory for access to certain environmental zones in French cities, must be ordered online in advance through official channels. Obtaining a Crit'Air sticker at a petrol station is not an option, as these are only issued directly by the French government or authorised providers such as VWE. To avoid fines and other inconveniences, it is important to apply for the sticker in good time before travelling to France. For a reliable and fast service, you can order the environmental sticker via This website.
